With new 21st century skills that students are educated with, we can sure that our economy will not be in jeopardy. We shouldn’t’ be in the same place we were five years ago. We no longer need to teach how to email properly when most of the students are instant messaging. Adapting 21st century skills knowledge to a changing world is what we ought to be doing. The world is changing and we need to adapt 21st century skills knowledge to this changing world. The focus today should be on critical thinking skills, and how to ask questions that require answers from several resources.

In this adapting, changing world, students should be engaged. There should be reality in what we do. Solving math problems today with math apps is very easy. They can create an essay from Google in 5 minutes, with references, and text their peer in the next class the assignment you have given them in the first period. Our job as educators is to understand this concept. Solving biggest problems with the use of this knowledge is what we should be concerned about. Something that they cannot download from YouTube is requiring them to use their skills on giving an oral presentation of their findings about a real world problem. If this will be the basis to assess the student – his analysis of a concept – there are many skills he needs to use to prepare for this presentation. He has to locate relevant information which he should determine as credible or not. Next is the writing of the script and its editing. Choosing appropriate images is next. Here you implement reading, writing, and research standards, and the last one that is difficult to reach is oral presentation. The priority of educators then is to teach that will prepare them for the future.
